Welcome to Expanding Fandom Past Ao3, a movement that aims to spread fandom events past Archive of our Own and onto other areas of the web, whether it is here on Dreamwidth, promoting usage of other sites such as Squidgeworld and single-fandom archives, on static websites, and so on and so forth. 

Why?

Same reason many people are using the Fediverse/Mastodon - nothing should be centralized to a single website, including fandom! I hold no contempt for Archive of Our Own, I just think that it is a good idea to establish a fandom presence on other areas of the web. AO3 is great, but not everyone wants to use it for various reasons. I personally dislike how popular the site has become on platforms like TikTok, and it makes me anxious to post there because of how many eyes may be on my work. I prefer smaller, closer-knit communities, where I can interact with others in a closer setting and lift others up, as well as have more control over who sees my work. So: here we are with expandingfandom!

What?

We'll be running events here and on Squidgeworld if possible and allowed. We'll also be posting tutorials and other resources for making static personal archives. And... maybe more!  Expanding Fandom is still a baby. If you want to help out, leave a comment!

Looking forward to seeing how this develops! I was just thinking we ought to have more community connected to but off Ao3 the other day. Glad someone else agrees, lol. Will be keeping my eyes peeled for any events 👍

This is a cool idea for a comm! I'm in favour of supporting decentralised fandom activity and encouraging smaller archives and groups. I look forward to seeing what you do here!
